Dario Sanfilippo was born in Agrigento, Italy, in 1983.
His interest on nonlinearity and unpredictability led him to the use of improvisation for the realization of his works and performances. In his research, he develops real-time processing systems based on digital feedback networks exhibiting nonlinear dynamics, self-dis/organization, chaotic behaviors and emergent properties. His performances implementing such systems are the result of the interaction between the aesthetics of the human and the aesthetics of the machine, where these two entities are interdependent and recursively influenced by each other, while his sound installations underline the autonomous and evolving character of such cybernetic entities.
On Live!iXem Festival in 2005, his composition “Chitarra Acustica Improvvisamente Stravolta” was selected after being evaluated by a jury made up of Phill Niblock, Jeremy Bernstein, Xavier Querrel and Domenico Sciajno, and in 2007, the composition “Pasto Nudo” was contained in the 5 finalists for the Art National Award 2007. In 2008 he became a member of the AMP2 electroacoustic ensemble. In 2010, the audiovisual work “Sea of Illusion”, a collaboration with the photographer Alfredo D’Amato, was selected for the XVIII Colloquium of Musical Informatics, and in 2011 his solo project “LIES” was selected for the Sound and Music Computing conference in the music section curated by Ron Kuivila. He had talks on his projects at L’Orientale University of Naples and Queen Mary University of London. His works have been published on labels such as Die Schachtel (IT) Creative Sources (PT), Bowindo (IT), Nexsound (UA), Idroscalo (IT), Entity (BE), and he has performed italian and european international festivals and electronic music events such as Audio Art Festival (PL), Curva Minore Festival (IT), Acoustic Fields (AT), Live!iXem Festival (IT), Audio Visiva (IT), Quiet Cue series (DE).
In the course of the years, he has performed and collaborated with artists like Andrea Valle, Domenico Sciajno, Tim Hodgkinson, Eugene Chadbourne, David Brown, Sean Baxter, Anthony Pateras, Cat Hope and others.
In 2011 he graduated in Music and New Technologies at the Conservatory of Trapani, Italy, and he’s currently doing post-graduate studies at the Conservatory of Naples, Italy.
